On July 31, 2004, we welcomed our first child, Garrett Jamison Wimmer, with all the love, pride, and adoration of new parents. Unfortunately, we also experienced extreme sadness because he was stillborn and would not be a part of our physical lives as we had hoped and dreamed.
We have learned so much from Garrett over the last eleven years. These lessons have shaped us to be the parents, friends, and family members that we are today. We have also found comfort in putting our grief energy toward supporting other stillbirth families and fighting for prevention of these tragedies. Another source of peace has come from our friends and family who help us keep Garrett’s memory alive. This includes the many, many friends we have met through Garrett and their angel babies as well.
When we began Star Legacy Foundation as a way to celebrate Garrett, we didn’t dream of the amazing growth we have experienced. I believe that is directly related to the significant need that exists for this type of work. We are so proud of what we have accomplished and our current efforts. But we also know we have much more to do.
We would be honored to have you join us for the 3rd Annual Let's Not Be Still! Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Run/Walk on Saturday, September 26, 2015. There are events for serious runners, walkers, kids and so much more! Even if you can't join us, please consider registering as a Virtual Participant! You'll receive an official event shirt prior to 9/26/15 so you can walk or run wherever you are! And, of course your donations would be greatly appreciated. We are proud to say that in these past 11 years we have no employees so every penny donated goes directly to our programs and projects.
Thank you for joining us in this journey and supporting us in the past, now, or in the future! We have great hope that in our lifetime the 26,000 families a year in the US that suffer the loss of a child to stillbirth can be significantly reduced through enhanced research and education and along the way we will continue to support families when they learn their baby will not be born alive or is not expected to live long after birth.
